8th Kota Kinabalu International Film Festival (KKIFF)
08 - 17 July 2016
Kota Kinabalu is located in East Malaysia on Borneo. As Borneo’s first and longest-running film festival, the KKIFF is aimed at three audiences: The film-going public of Kota Kinabalu, the young Sabahans who are interested in the film industry as a career, and professional filmmakers who want to network and have an opportunity to screen their work.
One of the main objectives is to provide Sabahan audiences with an opportunity to see local, regional and international commercial and independent films as a way of promoting international understanding. At the International Movie Nights there will be films screened from France, Georgia, Germany, Romania, Spain, Brazil, Argentina and the USA.
The Sabah Film Forum creates an opportunity for workshops on movie appreciation, viewing a variety of short films and talking about movies – and includes a filmmakers’ competition and a short film showcase. The Sabah Film Academy offers intensive workshops for young Sabahans with the guidance of American, Spain, German, Japanese and Malaysian mentors from the filmmaking industry to develop a firm foundation for a filmmaking industry based in Sabah. While the Sabah Pitching Training develops young filmmakers to master the skills of funding and project pitching.
