EUNIC Malaysia announces that European cultural organizations in Kuala Lumpur have established a common framework for the promotion of European culture and European-Malaysian cultural dialogue and exchange. EUNIC Malaysia unites the Alliance Française, the British Council, the Goethe-Institut of Germany, the Instituto Cervantes from Spain and the Italian Embassy as its members. More members are expected to join the EUNIC cluster soon.
The member organizations will continue to develop their separate activities, but they established EUNIC Malaysia on 24 March 2014 to promote, with shared resources and on a project-by-project basis, European cultural cooperation in all cultural fields.
The initiative is supported by the Delegation of the European Union to Malaysia as well as the respective embassies. EUNIC Malaysia aims to build an active European network. The Goethe-Institut will chair EUNIC Malaysia during its first year of operation, the Instituto Cervantes will be the Deputy Chair and the Alliance Francaise the second Deputy Chair.
The EUNIC Cluster Malaysia will now develop cultural activities together. It will support the European Film Festival in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching at the end of the year and there will be events in the context of the European Day of languages in September as well as other joint programs in the arts.
